Canada ‘s chief of defense staff , General Wayne Eyre, said the country is unable to complete the Armed Forces and about 10,000 positions remain unclaimed, causing an “unprecedented personnel crisis.” It is reported by CBC .

“We need the efforts of the entire society to help bring the armed forces back up to par,” he said.

According to Eyre, this situation is a threat to the defense capability of Canada. The general stressed that, among other things, the critical positions of junior officers and sergeants remain vacant.

On September 26, CTV reported that “thousands of vacancies” in the Canadian Armed Forces remain unfilled due to a personnel crisis.

According to the publication, in the 2020-2021 financial year, recruitment and training centers were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as a result, about 2 thousand people were enrolled in the army – less than half of the planned recruitment.

In 2021-2022, 4.8 thousand people joined the ranks of the Canadian army, however, in order to fulfill the plan, another 5.9 thousand people need to be attracted.
