In Japan, successfully operated on the spine using stem cells

Physicians at Japan’s Keio University performed the first ever successful operation to treat a spinal injury using iPS stem cells. This was reported by the press service of the university.

It is also reported that about 2 million nerve cells were transplanted to the patient and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Tokyo’s Murayama Medical Center. At the same time, the age and gender of the operated patient is not specified.

During the press conference, Hideyuki Okano, professor of physiology and current dean of the Keio University School of Medicine, assured that the condition of the person after the operation is very good. For the next three months, specialists will collect information about the patient’s health status.
