In Russia, they can provide operators with frequencies for 5G without charging a fee

The issue of providing free of charge to operators the frequencies necessary to provide services of the 5G communication standard is currently being considered by the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation. This was announced on January 15 by the Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Maksut Shadayev.

“We are now discussing the issue that the frequencies needed for 5G will be provided without charging operators”, – TASS quotes him as saying.

Shadayev also clarified that the Ministry of Digital Transformation proposed to cancel the fee for the 4.8-4.9 GHz band used for this, which requires a significantly higher installation frequency of base stations than in the classic 3.4-3.5 GHz band.
