The premiere of the film “BASTA.SUPERIGRA” will take place on May 24 at the KION online cinema and on the Gazgolder YouTube channel. The film was created on the basis of over 500 hours of footage, including rare archival footage.
“BASTA. SUPERIGRA is the first documentary film about Vasily Vakulenko, which contains unique archival footage, many of which will be seen by a wide audience for the first time. Among the heroes of the film are members of the Vasily family (wife Elena, daughters Maria and Vasilisa; also, for the first time, Basta’s mother, Anna Vasilievna, who will talk about her son), Guf (Alexey Dolmatov), Vladi (“Casta”), Scryptonite (Adil Zhalelov) will appear on the screen , Smokey Mo (Alexander Tsikhov), Konstantin Khabensky, Ivan Urgant, Dmitry Nagiyev, Sergey Shnurov, Pavel Titov, organizer of Basta’s first performances, and many others.
Vasily Vakulenko (Basta): “I have always enjoyed watching films and reading biographies of people of interest to me. Although I myself never wanted to record my own life. The film evokes different emotions in me – somewhere very difficult, because there are a lot of memories and archival footage that no one has seen. But there are also many funny things. Life has taught me that you need to treat yourself with irony, and to other people – with great attention. And the film turned out rather not about me, but about the world around me, life and people, with references to the past and reflections on the future.
How does Basta approach work and creativity, where does he get inspiration for musical material? What is he like at home and at work? This and many other things are told by friends, colleagues, relatives and friends of the performer – all those who have known Vasily well for many years. Starting in the “dashing 90s” in distant Rostov-on-Don, a young performer under the pseudonym “Basta Khryu” “teared” the small halls of the province. After 20 years, the already accomplished artist will give a big solo concert at the largest venue in Russia – the Luzhniki Grand Sports Arena, with a capacity of more than 70 thousand spectators.
The film goes through every stage of Basta’s career development: from the first performances in Rostov-on-Don and acquaintance with the Casta group to relationships with parents, drugs, “star disease” and family life. The film contains rare archival footage, many of which will be seen by a wide audience for the first time.
Filming of the film “BASTA.SUPERIGRA” lasted more than two years. Initially, a short video about the recording of the Basta 40 album was conceived, but with the advent of archival materials, the project turned into a full-length documentary.
