Russian gas supply to Europe could end by the end of the year | International

In an interview with the Financial Times, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, warned that Europe must be prepared for when Russia cuts off gas supplies to the continent and added that this can happen in winter, that is, at the end of 2022.

The warning occurs after Russia’s state gas company, Gazpromreduced the flow of gas through the Nord Stream gas pipeline to Europe due to failures in the return of technical gas pumping equipment by a German company.

In the midst of this alert, several European countries have begun to look for alternatives to sustain their energy needs. Germany has proposed to resume the use of coal-fired power plants and in France has considered the use of nuclear energy.

Other European countries like Sweden and Denmark have established an early warning for possible gas shortages. For the head of the IEA, this situation may trigger gas rationing on the continent.
