Petrobras will drill area near the mouth of the Amazon River | International

The Director of Exploration and Production of Petrobras, Fernando Borges announced that plans are ready to begin drilling in a region near the mouth of the Amazon River in the Atlantic Ocean with the aim of achieving “historic benefits”.

Drilling will begin once the concessions are obtained in this region, in which previously other countries such as Suriname and Guyana have found riches enough of which the multinational Exxon produces 340,000 barrels of oil daily.

The announcement has generated numerous criticisms and concerns from environmentalists and ecologists given that the area where the drilling will take place, known as the equatorial marginis home to an important chain of corals that will be affected by drilling.

Petrobras’ goal is to start test operations in mid-October and start drilling properly from November to discover large mineral reserves.
