Petro meets with the JEP: “We need to maximize the truth”; Petro to the JEP | Judicial

This Friday, July 29, and for a space of more than two hours, the elected president, Gustavo Petro; the appointed foreign minister, Álvaro Leyva; and the designated High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Ruedamet for the first time with the Plenary Chamber of the JEP.

It was learned that in that meeting, which was behind closed doors, the president-elect expressed the importance of the JEP being able to contribute truth to Colombian society and continue to be an effective court in the application of transitional justice with a restorative approach.

“We must collect the experience of the JEP“, assured Petro, who added that “Deep down what worries and scares is the truth (…) we need to maximize the truth,” concluded the president.

For its part, Judge Eduardo Cifuentes, president of the JEP, told the incoming government that, “Without a robust peace policy, it would be extremely difficult for the JEP to fulfill its judicial function.”
