Murder of Jesus Montano: Vice President condemned the murder of an indigenous leader before the IACHR and the UN | Politics

Vice President and Chancellor Martha Lucia Ramirez manifested through a letter addressed to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the representative in Colombia of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to unite against the murder of JJesus Montanoindigenous leader of the Misak people, after his disappearance on June 5, in the village of La Rejoya in Popayán, Cauca.

“It is essential that international bodies, in their work defending human rights and monitoring the situation in the countries of the region, join the call made by the Colombian State to condemn and make visible these serious events,” he said in the letter.

He reiterated that all citizens should have the freedom to participate and choose their ideologies for the valuable contribution of democracy“in the case of ethnic minorities, their contribution to political development is a valuable form of rapport with the other sectors of Colombian society without prejudice to preserving their habits, customs and traditions,” said Ramírez.

He expressed that there is the will and willingness of the Government to prevent this from happening again with the help of these organizations.
