Zelensky urges Iceland to step up sanctions pressure on Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky calls on Iceland to increase sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.

He made the relevant appeal in a speech before the Icelandic Althingi, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Obviously, Russia’s war against Ukraine is not just an attempt to take over one country and destroy life in it. No, this is an encroachment on freedom as such, therefore it is important for all the free people of the world that our country does not remain alone in the confrontation with Russia. It is important that every nation helps,” Zelensky stressed.

He thanked Iceland for supporting Ukraine during the war and urged them not to stop.

“I call on your government, your diplomats, your people to be advocates for increasing pressure on Russia. To be freedom advocates across the board. No trading with tyranny. First of all, we need to abandon Russian oil, oil mixtures and oil products. No financial ties to tyranny. No political help to tyranny,” the head of the Ukrainian state stressed.

The President noted that Ukrainians believe in victory and are doing everything to expel the invaders and liberate their land. Zelensky did not predict when this would happen, but said that preparations were already underway for the restoration of Ukraine.

He invited Iceland to join the implementation of the program for the restoration of Ukraine, in particular, in terms of the energy modernization of the state: “We in Ukraine, of course, believe in victory and are doing everything to expel the invaders and liberate our land and our people. I cannot name the time, when it comes to fruition, but we are already preparing to rebuild our country.”
