Kyiv needs arms shipments and tightening anti-Russian sanctions against Russia, said the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky during a teleconference in front of the deputies of the National Council of Slovakia.
“The first thing we need is a weapon,” the Ukrainian leader stressed. He noted that Slovakia had already provided military assistance to Ukraine, and said that now Kyiv needs planes and helicopters.
Zelensky called sanctions another tool to counter the Russian Federation, stressing that Ukraine needs to tighten them, including in the energy sector. The Ukrainian president said he understands the difficulty of giving up Russian oil and gas for Slovakia. At the same time, according to Zelensky, it is necessary to do this in order not to depend on the Russian Federation.
During his speech, the President of Ukraine called on Slovakia to support his country’s efforts to join the European Union. At the same time, Zelensky said that the admission of Ukraine to the EU would help strengthen its defense capability.
