I was driving in the last days of the New Year holidays from the Black Sea towards Moscow along the M4 highway, which became military last year. In one direction – tanks on tractors, the people blinking their headlights affably, in the other – columns of tankers, which are buzzing in a football manner.
You slow down at the gas station, open the cart *: “Why didn’t you write about this? Are you silent? S..sh?” You close the cart, raise your eyes – behind the mini-market there are tented, military trucks. Someone in a box is bringing hot dogs to the guys. Those brush aside – fed. Life!
This is also patriotism. When you feel pride at the sight of a military man. And a desire to be grateful. This is what complicity is. This is the country that last year felt like a single whole, drop by drop squeezing Smolyaninov out of itself.
You refuel, turn on the radio (there is not much choice in the FM band on the highway), and there is a repeat of a chic concert, probably New Year’s. Artists unknown to me sing about the Donbass, the Russian soldier, the Victory … I wish there was someone on the Blue Light.
