On Saturday, relatives of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Azovstal and activists on Sophia Square in Kyiv called on the world community to respond to the tragedy that occurred on Friday in the colony of the occupied Yelenovka and recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of world terrorism, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
Several dozen people gathered on the square, most of whom were relatives of prisoners of war from the Azov regiment. Groups of people with posters lined up on Sophia Square near the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky.
The event was organized by the Viriy initiative group with the support of the Azovstal Defenders Families Association.
The wife of the commander of the Azov regiment, Ekaterina Prokopenko, noted that when the defenders of Azovstal laid down their arms and went into captivity, the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross assured that nothing would threaten their lives and health.
As reported, on July 29, Russian propaganda media reported that as a result of an alleged strike by ZSU on a penal colony in the occupied Yelenovka, Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept, 53 people were killed and 75 were injured.
