UN Secretary General reported on the preparation of a mission to investigate Yelenovka | News from Germany about Ukraine | DW

On the 162nd day of the full-scale Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine Russian troops continue to try to capture the settlements of the neighboring country. The armed forces and units of the territorial defense of Ukraine resist aggression. It is impossible to verify the statements of representatives of both sides of the conflict from independent sources. According to the UN, about 14 million Ukrainians have already left their homes. DW is watching developments Thursday, August 4 (Moscow time).

UN establishes an expert group to investigate the deaths in the explosions of about 50 Ukrainian prisoners Regiment “Azov” in the pre-trial detention center in Yelenovka, said the Secretary General of the organization António Guterres on August 3 in New York. According to him, Ukraine and Russia should determine the mission’s powers before it starts working. Guterres noted that the mission could not engage in a criminal investigation, while expressing the hope that the experts would be able to find out the “truth” about the tragedy. To do this, they need unimpeded access, which must be provided by both sides, Guterres said.
