UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who was in Moldova on April 9-10, expressed admiration for the hospitality of Moldovans, which they show to Ukrainian refugees
According to Ukrinform, he wrote about this in Twitter.
“I am amazed at the extreme generosity of the people and government of Moldova. 95% of the refugees are in their homes. Moldovans opened their borders and also opened their homes and hearts with great generosity.”
In a series of others tweets Guterres posted photos of his meetings with Moldovan families accepting refugees from Ukraine.
“Their hospitality is an example for all of us,” said the Secretary General. “I will never forget their generosity and solidarity.”
He wrote that “refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine have found refuge and hope in Moldova.”
According to Guterres, he visited a center where refugees can receive legal services and medical care.
At a meeting with President Maia Sandu, the UN Secretary General expressed gratitude to the people of Moldova for their hospitality and generosity towards Ukrainians.
“The enormous generosity of the Moldovan people towards those fleeing the war must be backed up by massive support from the international community,” he added.
