Ukrainians, with their heroism and devotion to democratic values, definitely deserve to be in the circle of a large European family.
Thus, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal reacted in Telegram on the decision of the European Union to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the EU, Ukrinform reports.
“Historic day for Ukraine. All 27 countries – members of the European Union supported granting our state the status of a candidate for joining the EU. Ukrainians, with their heroism and devotion to democratic values, definitely deserve to be in the circle of a large European family,” Shmyhal said.
According to him, our state has overcome a long way of transformation into a European country with a free market economy, developed democracy and respect for human rights and freedoms. Obtaining candidate status testifies to the successful implementation of reforms and significant progress towards European standards.
“We have already started integration into the EU internal market. There are signed aviation and energy “visa-free” visas, customs, industrial and digital ones are close to being concluded,” the head of government added.
The Prime Minister believes that the status of a candidate is an important signal for all Ukrainians that our common future is the European Union, and the process of joining the EU will become an integral part of the path of restoration of our country.
In addition, he added, this gives Ukraine wider access to EU programs and funds, as well as attracting new investments, since business will now consider Ukraine as a potential EU member and a promising platform for start-ups.
“Further accession of our country to the EU will provide benefits for all parties. Ukraine can guarantee European food security, help accelerate the green transition and reduce energy dependence on Russia, make a significant contribution to the economic development and digitalization of Europe,” Shmyhal is convinced.
He once again thanked the European Council for the positive decision and noted that Ukraine counts on the support of partners from the EU in achieving high membership criteria and restoring the country.
