Granting Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the European Union is a decisive moment for Ukraine and the EU, peace and democracy on the common European continent. The European Union will immediately begin preparations for the integration of Ukraine.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and the High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell in joint video messageaccording to Ukrinform.
“Against the background of the war in Europe, the European Union made a historic decision today: it granted the status of an EU candidate to Ukraine. This is a decisive moment for us, the European Union and Ukraine, as well as for peace and democracy on our common continent, because we live together on the European continent,” said the heads of diplomacy.
Kuleba and Borrell stated that Russian aggression will not succeed in trying to deprive Europeans of the right to live a normal, decent life, and Ukraine will win, and Europe will outweigh.
“Today marks the beginning of a long journey that we will go through together. We will immediately begin preparations for Ukraine’s integration into European structures and, finally, for membership in the European Union,” they noted.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and the High Representative also noted that with this historic decision, the EU sent a powerful signal: Ukrainians belong to the European family, the future of Ukraine is with the European Union.
“Ukraine and the EU stand together in the name of peace,” Kuleba and Borrell stressed at the end.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy added to the appeal that the decision to grant candidate status was deserved on the Maidan, at the front, in the offices where negotiations were held, experts were advocating and laws were being changed.
“Now it is fixed on paper and carved in stone,” Kuleba summed up.
