Timofeev on Turkey’s refusal to recognize referendums: “The ties of the countries will not change”

Program Director at the Russian International Affairs Council Ivan Timofeev in a conversation with Pravda.Ru reacted to the statements of the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevluta Cavusogluaccording to which Ankara will not consider the referendums in the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions as legal.

“I think that Turkey’s response is expected. It will not fundamentally affect the relations between Ankara and Moscow. That is, the countries’ ties will not change,” the analyst said.

According to him, relations between Russia and Turkey will not deteriorate at the moment. However, the expert allowed changes in the future.

Previously Head Turkish Foreign Office warned of the refusal of the authorities of the republic to recognize the vote on the inclusion of the regions that Kyiv controlled into the Russian Federation.

“We have stated and continue to declare to the Russian Federation that we do not recognize the annexation of Crimea. We have already expressed our concern and position on this matter,” the minister said during a press conference.
