Quito, Dec 11 The Ecuadorian Police reported this Sunday the seizure of more than four tons of cocaine hydrochloride in the last 48 hours and the dismantling of criminal organizations dedicated to the transport, collection and international trafficking of drugs and chemicals for processing.
“Four tons and 400 grams (of drugs) were seized, representing more than 43 million doses,” said Pablo Ramírez, national director of Anti-Drug Investigation, in a video posted this Sunday on the Police Twitter account.
He added that some 480 liters of calcium chloride were also seized, a product that is used to “refine or process cocaine hydrochloride.”
Ramírez explained that they inspected a container with cocoa beans, which was destined for Belgium, in which they found two tons of cocaine hydrochloride.
In another operation, they found more than two tons of cocaine hydrochloride and dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to transporting and storing drugs, he said, adding that they arrested ten people, against whom preventive detention has been ordered.
Four of the detainees had criminal records.
Ramírez advanced that, so far this year, the Police have recorded 185 tons of drugs seized, 11,000 people apprehended for drug trafficking, and more than 990 firearms. EFE
