These are the novelties of the 2023 season in Colombian professional football

Unlike the 2022 season of Colombian professional soccer, the 2023 campaign will have a substantial variant in which first and second category clubs will face each other for a spot in the 2024 Conmebol Libertadores Cup.

This is the BetPlay 2023 Cup, which on this occasion will include three phases in which it rewards the best reclassified of the BetPlay 2022 Tournament and League and faces the worst placed in this criteria, that is, the descended from its first two rounds. In this way, Boyacá Chicó, Deportivo Cali, Atlético Huila, Alianza Petrolera, Jaguares de Córdoba, Envigado FC and Once Caldas will be the first category teams that will start the tournament playing more matches than the rest of the 26 teams, taking into account that Real Cartagena, Barranquilla FC, Orsomarso, Real Santander, Valledupar FC, Atlético FC, Boca Juniors de Cali and Cúcuta Deportivo will also be in the first instance.

Only Boyacá Chicó and Alianza Petrolera will define the second leg of the series in phase I as locals in Tunja and Barrancabermeja, respectively.

The last eight clubs in the BetPlay Dimayor 2022 tournament reclassification table and the last eight of the BetPlay Dimayor 2022 League reclassification will participate, the keys will be decided by draw, where the tournament clubs will be seeded. This phase will be played in roundtrip matches.

The second phase includes the clubs Deportes Quindío, Patriotas Boyacá, Fortaleza CEIF, Llaneros FC, Leones FC, Tigres FC, Bogotá FC and Cortuluá FC. This is how it will be played according to what was reported by Dimayor:

The eight winning clubs of phase I will participate and they will face off against the first eight clubs of the reclassification of the BetPlay Dimayor 2022 Tournament. This phase will be played in roundtrip matches, the winning clubs of phase I will end up as locals.

The eight clubs in phase two will face each other and will eventually play a round of 16 with a draw to face the remaining 12 teams, which are: Millonarios FC, Deportivo Independiente Medellín (DIM), Deportes Tolima, Atlético Nacional, Junior de Barranquilla, Independiente Santa Fe, Deportivo Pereira, Rionegro Águilas, La Equidad, Atlético Bucaramanga, Deportivo Pasto and América de Cali.
