The Vatican considers acceptable arms shipments to Ukraine and recognizes the “moral right” of the country to defend itself against “Russian aggression”, said Secretary of State (head of government) Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
In his speech, Parolini referred to the teachings of the Catholic Church about “just war”.
“There is a right to armed defense in case of aggression,” the cardinal told reporters. – First of all (Condition. – Note ed..) proportionality, and then that the response does not cause more damage than the damage caused by aggression. This is in the context of “a just war. I would say that the issue of sending weapons can be put within this framework.”
In addition, the cardinal stressed that the Vatican is still ready to mediate between Kyiv and Moscow for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
