US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.
According to Ukrinform, Austin said this in Twitter.
“I discussed with my colleague Oleksiy Reznikov the needs of the Ukrainian military. I reaffirmed our strong support for transferring to Ukraine the necessary capabilities to counter Russian aggression” Austin wrote.
The head of the Pentagon also informed the Ukrainian minister about the further coordination of the United States and its allies and partners regarding joint efforts in the issue of security assistance to Ukraine.
In turn, Reznikov shared with Austin his assessment of the situation on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine.
As Ukrinform reported, On May 9, US President Joe Biden approved Law S. 3522 on Lend-Lease and the Defense of Democracy in Ukraine-2022which will allow to use the program of accelerated assistance to Ukraine from the United States.
The draft Law on Lend-Lease and the Defense of Democracy in Ukraine was adopted last month by both houses of the US Congress. In particular, the Senate unanimously supported the document on April 6, and the House of Representatives voted on April 28. The document allows the US President to use the lend-lease program for the accelerated transfer of weapons, military equipment, medicines, and food to Ukraine. It is assumed that the recipient country will pay their cost later.
The lend-lease program operated during World War II. It allowed the United States to quickly provide weapons to the allies.
