UN experts are ready to help in the investigation of the shelling of the colony in Olenovka.
This was stated by Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq, Ukrinform reports with reference to Voice of America.
“With regard to the recent tragedy in the Olenivka prison, subject to the consent of the parties, we are ready to send a group of experts capable of conducting an investigation,” Haq said.
He added that the UN also fully supports the initiatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
As Ukrinform reported, law enforcers opened criminal proceedings on the shelling of Olenivka, Donetsk region, by Russian troops, as a result of which about 40 people died and 130 were injured.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military deliberately fired on the colony in Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the killing of Ukrainian prisoners in the temporarily occupied Olenivka, Donetsk region, was carried out by mercenaries from the Wagner private military company.
More than 50 captured Ukrainian defenders were killed.
