Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation are conducting searches in the premises of the Channel 4 TV channel, which belongs to People’s Deputy Alexei Kovalev, suspected of treason and complicity with Russia.
According to Ukrinform, this is reported by GBR.
“Also, investigative actions were carried out at his assistant and officials of the TV channel,” the report says.
The State Bureau of Investigation noted that the management of the corporate rights of the channel, by the decision of the investigating judge, was transferred to the Asset Tracing and Management Agency (ARMA).
As Ukrinform reported, the court arrested Kovalev’s property for further confiscation in favor of the state. In particular, the defendant’s shares in the authorized capitals of three legal entities, as well as his bank accounts, were arrested. The total cost of corporate rights is more than UAH 4.7 million. One of the legal entities, 100% of the authorized capital of which was arrested, is TRK Interradio LLC, the Ukrainian information and entertainment channel Channel 4.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, Kovalev exported food from the Kherson region to the temporarily occupied Crimea, imported fuel and lubricants for the Russians from there, and gave a sanatorium in Gola Prystan to accommodate Russian troops.
In April, criminal proceedings were opened against Kovalev, who, after a full-scale Russian invasion, is in the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region and is helping Russian troops. In early July, Kovalev took the position of the so-called “deputy chairman” in the “government of the Kherson region” illegally created by the Russians.
On July 6, then Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova, on the basis of the evidence collected by the SBI, informed Kovalev of the suspicion.
On July 15, Kovalyov was sentenced in absentia to a measure of restraint in the form of detention without the alternative of making a bail.
The actions of the suspect are qualified under Part 2 of Art. 111 (high treason under martial law), part 1 of Art. 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (complicity with the aggressor state), for which a punishment of up to 15 years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property is provided.
Kovalev was put on the wanted list. The pre-trial investigation continues.
