The sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation will not be the last

The Office of the President is confident that the sixth package of European Union sanctions against Russia must necessarily contain an oil embargo

Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva said this on the air of a national telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Ukraine does not need a sixth package without an oil embargo, because this is one of the main sanctions that should be introduced today, and it really should give an instant result,” Zhovkva said.

According to him, there are some countries that do not support the rejection of Russian oil, but there are ongoing negotiations and discussions with them.

Zhovkva also noted that the sixth package of sanctions will definitely not be the last, because there are other sanctions that Ukraine needs to weaken the Russian Federation.

As reported, the European Union intends to offer exemptions on oil supplies from Russia and give Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic the opportunity to keep imports of Russian oil until 2024. The remaining EU members are expected to phase out imports by the end of this year. However, Hungary is not satisfied with such a proposal either, and continues to block the package.
