The shouts of the Fenerbahce fans do not reflect the official position of the club

Shouts from part of the stands during the match between Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kyiv in Istanbul in the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League do not reflect the official position of the club.

According to Ukrinform, this is stated in Turkish football club Fenerbahce.

“As for the cries that sounded from part of the stands during the Dynamo Kyiv match on our field in the 2nd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after the opponent’s goal, they in no way reflect the official position of our club,” the statement says.

It is noted that the club on February 24, 2022 was the first to react to the outbreak of war.

“Once again we want to repeat the message that we have previously distributed on all our official channels: “War is not courage, it is cowardice! #No to war,” the club said.

One of the most convincing examples of the response in Fenerbahce was the friendly match played against Shakhtar Donetsk on the field of the Turkish club in April under the slogan “Football in the name of peace” to draw attention to peace in Ukraine and make a material and moral contribution.

“We hosted Shakhtar Donetsk in our country and supported them in every possible way. Our position, as Fenerbahce Sports Club, has been unchanged from the first day of the process and is known to the public… Whatever the reason, we, as Fenerbahce Sports Club, do not agree with the reaction that has arisen from some of our stands,” it says. in a statement.

As Ukrinform reported, Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Vasily Bodnar earlier reacted to the incident that occurred yesterday during the Fenerbahce-Dynamo match in Istanbul, when Turkish fans shouted the name of the Russian President. He expressed understanding of the emotionality of the game, but outraged by the expression of support for “the Russian killer and aggressor who deliberately kills Ukrainians and destroys our country”.

UEFA launched an investigation into the incident..
