The Porfiriato left Mexico a legacy of influence and corruption: AMLO

On the morning of this Sunday, November 20, thousands of members of the Army, the Navy and the National Guard were getting ready to begin preparations for the civic-military parade of the Mexican Revolution for its 112th anniversary in Mexico City.

The ceremony prior to the parade began at 8:30 a.m. on the esplanade of the capital’s Zócalo, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), accompanied by the head of Government of CDMX, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, in which the Mexican National Anthem was sung.

Next to the federal president were also the secretaries of Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandovalof the Marine, Raphael Ojedathat of the Interior, Adam Augusto Lopezthat of Economy, Rogelio Ramirez de la O and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodriguez. In addition to the presidents of the Boards of Directors in the Chambers of Senators and Deputies, Armando Armenta Mier Y Santaigo Creel.

By that time, the contingents that will participate in the event were ready, including representatives of the Constitutionalist Army. A deployment of about 7 thousand 800 elements1,400 horses and more than 100 military vehicles.

The parade will depart from the Zócalo to finish in Campo Marte, passing through Avenida 5 de Mayo, Avenida Juárez and Paseo de la Reforma. Due to the above, the service on lines 1, 3, 4 and 7 of the metrobus Mexico City had modifications (2, 5 and 6 will operate normally).

In his speech, President López Obrador mentioned that no economic model can be sustained through the use of weapons while they do not guarantee peace and social tranquility (in reference to the government of Porfirio Díaz who held power for approximately 36 years).

“Since the beginningthe Porfirian dictatorship was oriented to favor the rich and he turned his back on the poor, although Porfirio Díaz was of humble origin, he always tried to belong to those above.

In this sense, it was that AMLO pointed out that since that time the “precursors” of the practices of influencerism and corruption of modern Mexico, for which he emphasized that democratic governments have the purpose of meeting the needs of the majority.

It was shortly before 10:00 a.m. when the first representative troops of the different corps of the Constitutionalist Armyaccompanied by “Adelitas” and military cadets, evacuated the Plaza de la Constitución to join the parade of the Mexican Revolution.

The Diploma General of the General Staff and General Director of the Military Industry, Jaime Gonzalez Avalos, was the Commander of the parade column and began the tour accompanied by the cadets who wore the dress uniform dating from 1913.

Thus, each of the contingents from different states of the Republic – between charros and skirmishes – began to parade through the streets surrounding the capital’s Zócalo, while dozens of families took shelter in some stands to enjoy the commemorative event.
