The new Prosecutor General met with the ambassadors of the G7 countries

Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, during a meeting with the ambassadors of the G7 countries and the EU Delegation to Ukraine, discussed the work of the prosecution authorities under martial law, deepening cooperation and strengthening international expert assistance.

As the Prosecutor General assured, building an independent professional prosecutor’s office remains a priority for him. And under martial law, the key is to investigate Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

“We all saw the shocking footage of the Olenovsky detention center, where our prisoners of war from Azovstal were, as well as the terrible torture and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. These are deliberate and premeditated war crimes and nothing more than a blatant and cynical slap in the face of the international community. But it is our duty to ensure that all those involved in these crimes do not escape responsibility. We must also adequately counter Russian lies and misinformation,” the press service of the Prosecutor General quoted the press service as saying.

In turn, the ambassadors expressed their support and noted that they are closely following the processes taking place in the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office, including the completion of the reform of the so-called justice triangle.

The ambassadors also expressed concern about the level and scale of crimes committed by the Russian military in Ukraine.

The ambassadors assured that they are ready to continue to provide the necessary expert assistance in the investigation of war crimes and continue ongoing support for Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office informs.

As Ukrinform reported, on July 26, the Verkhovna Rada supported the appointment of Andriy Kostin as Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Andrei Kostin is already a former people’s deputy of the ninth convocation, a member of the Servant of the People party. Headed the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy.
