A separate special-purpose detachment “Azov” is a structural unit within the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU).
About this in Facebook The press service of the NSU has announced that it has issued a statement recognizing Azov as a so-called terrorist organization by the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, Ukrinform reports.
The National Guard stated that the initiators of the laws in Russia “were guided by the image created in their own media and did not even understand that we were talking about a separate detachment of special forces of the state structure, and not about an informal paramilitary group.”
“We officially announce that a separate special-purpose detachment “Azov” is part of the 12th operational brigade of the NGU. This is not a separate “regiment”, but a structural unit within the NGU, a military formation subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was created and legally operates in the state and today continues to perform combat missions to protect the state,” the report says.
The NSU noted that due to its own narratives and propaganda in its own and foreign media, the Russian Federation seeks to make Azov a so-called “neo-Nazi regiment”.
To do this, Russia constantly invents and spreads various terrible stories about the activities of Azov, and makes its soldiers the object of intimidation of people in Russia and the world, and its destruction is one of the goals of the war that has begun.
“After the terrible execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in N. p. Olenovka, Russia is looking for new pretexts and excuses for its war crimes,” the report says.
As Ukrinform reported, the Russian Supreme Court recognized the Azov Regiment as a terrorist organization and banned its activities in the Russian Federation.
Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podolyak informed that decisions in Russian jurisdictions regarding Ukraine or its military personnel would have no legal value for the world and would not affect the negotiation process on the exchange of prisoners.
Law enforcers opened criminal proceedings on the fact of shelling of Olenovka in Donetsk region by Russia, as a result of which about 40 people were killed and 130 people were injured.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military deliberately fired on the colony in Olenivka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were kept.
The General Staff called the Kremlin’s statements about the alleged shelling of civilian infrastructure and the population by the Armed Forces of Ukraine “an outright lie and a provocation.”
On July 29, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense stated that, according to available information from Ukrainian intelligence, the murder of Ukrainian prisoners in the temporarily occupied Olenivka, Donetsk region, was committed by mercenaries from the private military company Wagner.
