Italian mafia, in particular, the criminal structure Camorra, departs from traditional secrecy and begins to flaunt the posh and lavish lifestyle of its members. In addition, now mafiosi use social networks to spread threats to unwanted people.

The mafia has become younger and, accordingly, its interests have changed: now young criminals are happy to blog. For example, Crescenzo Marino has over 43,000 followers on TikTok, and his videos have nearly a million likes.

Other members of the group try to keep up and are happy to post video reports about a luxurious vacation.

“Camorra has the youngest members of the Italian mafia and they love TikTok because it’s so fast and has fewer rules than other platforms. They followed the Mexican drug traffickers who are active users of TikTok,” said Marcello Ravvedato, professor of modern history at the University of Salerno.

He believes that the police need to be more active in monitoring social media posts posted by people suspected of having ties to the mafia.

Camorra is a Neapolitan criminal structure that arose in the 17th century. It differs from the traditional Italian mafia only by the hierarchy – the group consists of a number of clans, each of which is headed by its own leader.

According to the British media, today there are more than 50 thousand people in Camorra, divided into a hundred groups that control almost all drug trafficking in Europe and are particularly bloodthirsty.
