Hero of Russia Lieutenant Anatoly Ishchenko.

We continue to acquaint you with the heroes of the special operation “Z” – participants in the hostilities in the Donbass. Privates, sergeants, corporals and officers who showed their professional experience, character and completed combat missions. Their determination, assertiveness and combat experience in the Russian Ministry of Defense, in the police units of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, are given the highest rating.

Our heroes thwarted the attacks and prevented the counteroffensive of the nationalists, for which they received state awards. But they do not serve for the sake of praise and awards. The servicemen are sure that the enemy has no chance of success, because Donbass and Russia are fighting for a just cause.

“A good name belongs to every honest person, but I concluded a good name in the glory of my Fatherland, and all my deeds tended to its prosperity,” said Generalissimo Alexander Suvorov, who did not lose a single battle. And he taught warriors to pay attention even to trifles: “Great adventures come from small causes”!

Captain Alexander NIKITIN

“During the liberation of one of the settlements from units of Ukrainian nationalists, Captain Alexander Nikitin supervised the delivery of fire strikes on enemy positions. While adjusting the fire of Russian artillerymen, Alexander came under oncoming fire from enemy artillery, but, despite the shell shock received during the shelling, continued to carry out the combat mission, adjusting the fire with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result of the coordinates of neo-Nazi objects promptly transmitted by Captain Nikitin, artillery and mortar positions, as well as armored vehicles and enemy manpower, were destroyed by artillery units.

Competent and skillful actions of Captain Alexander Nikitin allowed motorized rifle units to advance to the indicated lines and dislodge the enemy from their positions.

Senior Warrant Officer Alexei CHERNYAK

“During the period of the special military operation in areas of intense hostilities, the head of the communications platoon, senior warrant officer Aleksey Chernyak, performed combat missions to organize uninterrupted communications in the interests of the battalion tactical group. The column of Russian units, which included Aleksey and his subordinates, marching to a given area, was subjected to a massive attack by Ukrainian nationalists. During one of the salvos, a communications station was damaged by an artillery shell. Despite the constant artillery fire of the nationalists, the crew under the command of senior warrant officer Alexei Chernyak, showing courage and selflessness, restored the station to working capacity and provided the command of the units with communication with the higher headquarters.

Through organized communication channels, the coordinates of the location of enemy forces were promptly transmitted, on the basis of which a response artillery salvo was fired at the enemy. The courageous and professional actions of senior warrant officer Aleksey Chernyak made it possible to prevent losses among personnel and equipment, repel an enemy attack and ensure the advancement of Russian troops to given lines.

Junior Sergeant Dmitry BURYLOV

“The commander of the combat vehicle of a rocket artillery platoon, junior sergeant Dmitry Burylov, acting as part of the crew of a combat vehicle of a rocket artillery battery, carried out the task of providing fire support to the Russian Armed Forces attacking the positions of Ukrainian nationalists. Moving along the route, the advanced reconnaissance group discovered an armed formation of nationalist forces preparing an attack on Russian units, about which the group commander immediately informed the gunners via radio communications and reported the coordinates of the enemy unit. Having accepted the information, Dmitry Burylov, showing professionalism and skill, promptly made calculations for firing and, with an accurate launch of missiles, delivered a fire attack on the positions of the enemy of Ukrainian radicals.

Thanks to the professional skills of junior sergeant Burylov, his timely and accurate calculations, two enemy infantry fighting vehicles and up to 20 militants were destroyed by fire from a combat vehicle. The operational and professional actions of junior sergeant Dmitry Burylov made it possible to ensure the breakthrough of defensive positions and the advancement of the supported unit deep into the enemy defenses.

Lieutenant Nikolay YURCHENKO

“The commander of the communications platoon, Lieutenant Nikolai Yurchenko, performed the tasks of organizing uninterrupted communications in the interests of the battalion tactical group of Russian troops. During another attempt by Ukrainian nationalists to attack the positions of our units using artillery and mortars, the satellite communications station was damaged by a mortar shell that exploded nearby. Realizing that the loss of communication with the higher headquarters makes it impossible for the command to quickly coordinate the actions of the forces in battle, Lieutenant Yurchenko immediately moved to the position where the damaged equipment was located and began to restore it. Risking his life, Nikolai restored the blocks damaged by fragments, and also repaired the satellite communications antenna, after which he reconfigured the station. Thanks to the courage, courage and professionalism of Lieutenant Nikolai Yurchenko, communication was promptly restored, which made it possible to ensure stable control of the battalion tactical group in battle and repel the attack of the nationalists.

Lieutenant Anatoly ISCHENKO

“In the course of a special military operation, the commander of an anti-aircraft missile platoon, Lieutenant Anatoly Ishchenko, captured and launched missiles at air targets from a portable anti-aircraft missile system. Covering the objects of the Russian group of troops from enemy air attack, Anatoly attacked a pair of enemy Su-25s that appeared in his area of responsibility. As a result of the first shot from MANPADS, Anatoly Ishchenko shot down the plane with a direct hit. The pilot of the second aircraft, fearing being shot down, stopped the attack and left the airspace controlled by Anatoly Ishchenko’s platoon. Also, the officer, in the course of holding a strategically important line by a battalion-tactical group of Russian troops, discovered an enemy Su-25 aircraft in the sky and destroyed it with an accurate shot from a portable anti-aircraft missile system. A few days later, Lieutenant Anatoly Ishchenko discovered a couple more Su-25 Ukrainian nationalists. The officer promptly reacted to the appearance of air targets and hit the first enemy aircraft with a shot from a portable anti-aircraft missile system, after which he aimed and knocked out the second enemy Su-25 aircraft. The pilot flying the second plane ejected and landed in territory controlled by the Russian Armed Forces. The pilot would have been captured and taken to the command post of the regiment. Important information was obtained from the prisoner about the basing of enemy tactical aviation and helicopter parking areas. In total, during the period of hostilities, Lieutenant Ishchenko’s platoon destroyed 12 enemy Su-25 aircraft and 4 Mi-8 helicopters, of which 5 aircraft and 3 helicopters were personally by the officer. The other day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu presented Lieutenant Anatoly Ishchenko at the National Defense Control Center with the country’s highest state award – the Gold Star medal.
