On Thursday, June 23, the Solomensky District Court of Kyiv held a preparatory hearing in the case of Russian serviceman Mikhail Romanov, who is accused of killing Alexei Zdorovets, a resident of the village of Bogdanovka, and rape his wife.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the prosecutor’s office, the widow of Zdorovets, lawyers for the victim and the accused. All participants requested that the trial be held behind closed doors, as the case concerns a crime against sexual freedom and inviolability.
The prosecution also demanded that Romanov himself be summoned to court. As the representative of the prosecutor’s office, Oksana Kalyus, explained, the department understands that he will not appear, but this is necessary so that the court has the opportunity to legally consider the case without the participation of the accused. The judges satisfied the petition of the prosecutor’s office and announced a break.
Defendant’s whereabouts unknown
Location at the moment accused unknown. According to the investigation, he is in Russia. After the meeting, Kalius told reporters that investigators had checked information from social networks about the possible death of Romanov in battle, but they did not find such information.
According to information from social networks, 31-year-old Mikhail Romanov was born in the city of Plast in the Chelyabinsk region and lived with his wife and child in Chebarkul. In the same city, units of the 90th Panzer Division are stationed, in one of the regiments of which Romanov served under a contract. After the withdrawal from Kyiv, the division continues fight in the Lugansk region.
