The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be hosted by Great Britain | News from Germany about Europe | DW

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the British broadcaster BBC have confirmed that the international song contest “Eurovision” in 2023 will be held in the UK on behalf of this year’s winning broadcaster – the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine UA:PBC. The BBC will be the organizer of the competition. This is stated in EBU statementpublished on Monday, July 25, on his website.

Originally Eurovision should have accepted Ukrainewhose representative is the group Kalush Orchestra – won first place in the competition this year. However, the EBU decided to move it to the UK, whose performer Sam Ryder was awarded second place.

Ukraine will automatically advance to the final

Ukraine will not be able to hold music contest “Eurovision” in 2023 on its territory for security reasons, indicated in its statement to the EBU and recalled that this event is held in the winning country, subject to a number of requirements, including ensuring the safety of participants and spectators. Against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities The EBU concluded that, given the current circumstances, UA:PBC would not be able to provide the required security guarantees.

But at the same time, Ukraine will automatically qualify for the Eurovision 2023 final along with the Big Five, which includes countries that make the largest financial contribution to the contest – France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Collecting applications from British cities to host an international song contest in 2023 “Eurovision” will start this week.
