The court seized the ships Matros Pozinich, Mikhail Nenashev and Matros Koshka, which sail under the flag of the Russian Federation, as well as the Syrian ship Phoenicia for transporting stolen Ukrainian grain from the temporarily occupied Crimea.
According to Ukrinform, this is reported by Office of the Attorney General.
It has been established that these vessels entered the closed ports and terminals of the Crimean peninsula, participating in an illegal scheme for transporting Ukrainian grain to third countries, and, therefore, were a tool for committing crimes.
The investigation is carried out on the facts of violation of the procedure for entering the temporarily occupied territory and leaving it (part 2 of article 332-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, these vessels make systematic illegal calls to the closed Sevastopol Sea Commercial Port. Thus, the Crimean peninsula is used by Russia as a “gray zone” for the transport of grain, which the invaders illegally took possession of.
The Office of the Prosecutor General recalled that since July 2014 Ukraine has officially stopped the operation of all ports of the occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the harbors of the peninsula are closed to international navigation.
“The entry of ships under a foreign flag into the seaports of Crimea is qualified by law enforcement agencies of the autonomy as actions that undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine and violate the norms of national legislation, which entails criminal liability for shipowners, operators and captains of ships,” the UCP noted.
As Ukrinform reported, in July, the captains of the Russian ships “Matros Pozinich” and “Mikhail Nenashev” were informed by law enforcement officers of suspicions for the illegal export of Ukrainian grain stolen by the invaders.
