The Azov regiment showed a photo of the wounded soldiers at Azovstal and called on the UN and the Red Cross to organize their evacuation

Photo of wounded soldiers published in the Telegram channel of the Azov regiment.

“The entire civilized world must see the conditions in which the wounded, crippled defenders of Mariupol are and act! In complete unsanitary conditions with open wounds, bandaged with non-sterile remnants of bandages, without the necessary medicines and even food. We call on the UN and the Red Cross to show their humanity and reaffirm the basic principles on which you were created by rescuing wounded people who are no longer combatants,” Azov said in a statement.

“The servicemen you see in the photo, and hundreds more at the Azovstal plant, with severe injuries at the cost of their own health, defended Ukraine and the entire civilized world. Are Ukraine and the world community now unable to protect and take care of them? We demand the immediate evacuation of wounded servicemen to Ukrainian-controlled territories, where they will be provided with assistance and proper care,” the Ukrainian defenders of Mariupol said.

Earlier, the National Guard of Ukraine announced that President Volodymyr Zelensky and the entire leadership of the state, including with the assistance of the international community, are working on the application of the extraction procedure in order to fire wounded soldiers, doctors and military personnel from the Azovstal plant blocked by the invaders in Mariupol. The extraction procedure means the removal of Ukrainian defenders to a third safe country.

“All this time, the servicemen continue to carry out their assigned tasks to defend the city and the strategic facility. Separate special forces detachment “Azov”, 12th brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, 36th separate brigade of marines, border guards, policemen, volunteers, Teroborona of Mariupol – the entire military garrison of defenders! They are all heroes. All of them must be saved – and this is one of the main tasks that must be solved not only on the battlefield, but also at the international level!

The National Guard noted that they report on those steps when it was possible to withdraw at least some of the people and evacuate them to other cities, because the evacuation itself is an extremely difficult process, from the establishment of a regime of silence to the need to dismantle the rubble.

“At the same time, it is not possible to disclose more information about actions and plans. We are unable to provide any material information regarding ongoing operations. And in the conditions of martial law it is impossible otherwise. In addition to the fact that this is a disclosure of plans for the enemy, various fakes and misinformation also appear, which nullifies this work. In conditions of active hostilities, we do not have the right to disclose the details of military and humanitarian operations, ”the department noted and promised to continue searching for solutions and do everything possible to save the lives of military and civilians.

As reported, on April 30, the evacuation of civilians hiding from hostilities in shelters on the territory of the Azovstal plant began. In the first group, 20 civilians were evacuated. On May 1, the second group was evacuated out of about 100 people. They are sent to the controlled territory of Ukraine. On May 2, the evacuation continued.

The president Vladimir Zelensky reportedthat the evacuation of people from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol does not concern the military and the wounded, because the UN, with the assistance of which the evacuation mission is underway, does not assume such responsibility.

May 7, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk reportedthat all children, women and the elderly were evacuated from the Azovstal plant. After the UN convoy left the Donetsk region, the Russian military began the assault on Azovstal.

In shelters on the territory of Azovstal, in addition to the military, there are still at least 100 civilians.

At 4 am on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the occupied Donbas. Russia launched missile strikes on Ukrainian territory and launched a direct full-scale invasion in four directions. The armed forces of Ukraine are rebuffing the enemy, the blitzkrieg plan – to capture Kyiv in two or three days – failed, the Russian army retreated from the capital. The Russian military commits thousands of war crimes and crimes against humanity throughout Ukraine.
