Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin took personal control of the investigation into the brutal torture and murder of a Ukrainian soldier.

“On my instructions, the prosecutors of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in the Conditions of Armed Conflict immediately began a pre-trial investigation. It will be carried out by the Main Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine. At the same time, urgent requests were sent to the prosecutors to the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, corresponding instructions were given to the operational units of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine in order to establish all the circumstances of the incident and the persons involved. The course of the pre-trial investigation is under my personal control, ”the press service of the department quotes the prosecutor general.
According to Kostin, atrocities have become a hallmark of the Russian army and the investigation of this category of crimes is one of the main priorities of the UCP.
“However, the latest case, the video of which was widely shared on social networks, exceeded all limits of human imagination with its cruelty. We saw the inhuman treatment of a prisoner of war in the form of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by the occupiers, from which even prosecutors and investigators who have experience in investigating brutal murders and torture flinched,” the Prosecutor General noted.
