Since March, the Russians have taken 453 people hostage in Zaporozhye, about 200 are still in captivity

In the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporozhye region, 191 Ukrainians are held hostage by the Russian military.

This was announced by the head of the Zaporozhye Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Starukh in his interview with Ukrinform.

“Since March, Russian troops have taken 453 people hostage (as of July 30 – ed.) on the territory of the Zaporozhye region. These are not prisoners of war, these are hostages,” Starukh said.

The head of the ZOVA specified that 191 out of 453 are still kept in captivity: six representatives of local authorities, 13 entrepreneurs, 27 heads of enterprises, institutions, establishments, organizations. “They have not been released. They are put in basements, beaten with electric shocks, mocked, demanded money, put pressure on families, threatened with the kidnapping of children,” he said.

Starukh added that five minors also became hostages of the Russian invaders. According to him, three have already been released, two have not yet been released. “The Russians are simply conducting terrorist activities. Those people who are temporarily held for a day or two, threatening, demanding – there are generally thousands of them,” the head of the administration emphasized.

He noted that such citizens are not prisoners of war, but hostages. Nevertheless, according to him, several dozen of them were released under the exchange procedure. However, there have been no such exchanges recently.

In addition, Starukh informed that, according to available information, the Russians are holding hostages on the territory of Ukraine – “some were taken to the Donbass, some to the Crimea.”

At the same time, he said that there is no confirmation of information about the forced deportation of citizens yet.

Since February 24, a full-scale Russian military aggression has been going on in Ukraine.
