Senator Kosachev urged NATO countries not to dream of the Baltic and Arctic

Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev stated that Russia will not give the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance the Baltic, Barents Seas and the Arctic.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics called the Baltic Sea “the sea NATOand welcomed the entry of Sweden and Finland into the alliance.

“As for the Baltic and Barents Seas, as well as the Arctic, let no one dream – we will not give these spaces to either NATO or other hunters of someone else’s good,” Kosachev emphasized in an interview with RIA Novosti.

After the start of the special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine, Finland and Sweden abandoned their neutral status and announced a possible entry into NATO. Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith positively assessed the plans of Helsinki and Stockholm.

The Russian Foreign Ministry promised to give a “military-technical response” to the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO, and the first deputy permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky noted that in such a scenario, these countries could become possible targets for the Russian army.
