Russian offensive is choking, Ukraine is already able to turn the tide

The offensive initiative of the Russian army in Ukraine has practically choked, at the same time, Ukraine has every chance to turn the tide in the war in its favor.

This is stated in the expanded publication of the publication. The Washington Postwhich quotes analysts in the military sphere, Ukrinform reports.

“The Russians are close to exhausting their capacity for further territorial gains, their depleted army confronting Ukrainian forces that have upgraded their combat capabilities,” George Barros, an analyst with the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), is quoted as saying.

At the same time, it is noted that the forces of the Russian Federation have already given up hope of capturing Kyiv, and soon they will have to fully feel their impotence to conquer the entire Donbass. It was one of the goals publicly proclaimed by the Kremlin at the start of the invasion and also remains the main focus of Russia’s current offensive ambitions.

Russia may succeed in capturing one or two more settlements in the Donbas that are directly on the line of hostilities, Barros said, but it is hard to imagine that its army will move further.

“It looks like the Russians’ ability to move forward is fading,” said another analyst, Phillips O’Brien, professor of strategic studies at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

He stressed that he does not see opportunities for the Russians to advance much further than the already captured territories on Donbass.

At the same time, analysts note that a massive recruiting campaign is underway across Russia, which the Kremlin desperately needs to make up for huge losses. In addition, it is noted that the Russian Federation has a nuclear potential, as well as other weapons of mass destruction.

But despite this, the Ukrainian army has a chance to seize the initiative now, taking advantage of the additional range and accuracy of Western weapons, in particular, HIMARS systems. According to American analysts, this is the key to the Armed Forces of Ukraine intercepting and firmly holding the initiative.

As Ukrinform reported, last week the US administration announced a new $270 million defense aid package for Ukraine. It includes, among other things, four HIMARS complexes, as well as other samples of the latest weapons and ammunition.
