Russian invaders destroyed two unique lighthouses in the Kherson region

This was announced by the deputy of the Kherson Regional Council, the head of the charitable foundation “Ukraine will win!” Igor Iosipenko on his Facebook page, reports the Center for Journalistic Investigations.

“At the highest lighthouse in Ukraine – Adzhigolsky, Russian troops hit with three missiles. Three missiles at the lighthouse! The Kherson Grand Canyon and the Khablovsky rear lighthouse also suffered at the hands of the rashists. They no longer exist. The orcs keep destroying our landmarks, but they will never destroy our nation!” Iosipenko wrote.

Earlier, the information that the occupiers hit the Adzhigol lighthouse, with reference to local residents, was published by the deputy of the Kherson Regional Council Serhiy Khlan. He said that two hits were in the base of the lighthouse, and one in the structure.

Adzhigolsky or Stanislav-Adzhigolsky rear lighthouse is located in the Dnieper estuary, near the village of Rybalche, Chulakovskaya territorial community of the Skadovsky district. It was built in 1911 according to a unique design by engineer and scientist Vladimir Shukhov. It has a vertical lattice hyperboloid structure of steel strips 64 meters high, making it the tallest lighthouse in Ukraine and the eighteenth tallest in the world. It is also considered the world’s tallest traditional lighthouse.

The Khablovsky rear lighthouse was built over 150 years ago and is located on the border of the Kherson and Nikolaev regions in the steppe, a few hundred meters from the coast. Together with the front and middle Khablovsky lighthouses, it forms a line that helps ships navigate during the passage along the Dnieper-Bug Estuary. The current lighthouse was built in 1952.

The Kherson Grand Canyon, or “Kherson Mountains”, is named after its resemblance to an American nature reserve. It is located on the territory of the Stanislavsky reserve, on the coast of the Dnieper-Bug estuary.
