Russian Foreign Ministry: Ukraine’s acquisition of nuclear weapons will be a disaster

Ukraine does not comply with its own obligations under the Budapest Memorandum, and there is nationalism in the country. This means that Kyiv’s acquisition of nuclear weapons would undermine the foundations of their nonproliferation and the world’s security foundations. This was announced at the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) by the representative of the delegation of the Russian Federation Alexander Trofimov. “Such a destabilizing step would be contrary to Kyiv’s obligations under the NPT, grossly undermine the integrity of the nuclear non-proliferation regime and create unacceptable risks for international security,” the expert said.
