“Russian cosmonaut” deceived about 200 million rubles from a Japanese woman

A man posing as a Russian cosmonaut tricked a Japanese woman out of 4.4 million yen (about 200 million rubles) for his return flight to Earth, besides, he promised to marry her.

The 65-year-old woman reportedly sent the scammer a huge amount after he said he wanted to “fly” home and start a life together in Japan.

A man started a conversation with a woman on Instagram in June. Photos of space were posted on his profile. The space cowboy even claimed to have worked on the International Space Station, where astronauts have limited access to telephone service. As the online relationship developed, the man assured the lady that he was ready to tie the knot, but he needed big money to cover the cost of the rocket and the flight to Earth, according to TV Asahi.

Between August 19 and September 5, the woman sent 4.4 million yen to her intended future husband in five separate payments. Eventually the woman became suspicious as the man kept asking for more money. And then she reported the “cosmonaut” to the police.
