Russia paid off Eurobond debts in rubles | News from Germany about Ukraine | DW

On the 120th day full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine Russian troops continue to try to capture the settlements of the neighboring country. The Armed Forces of Ukraine and its territorial defense units are resisting aggression. It is impossible to quickly verify the statements of representatives of both sides of the conflict from independent sources. According to the UN, about 14 million Ukrainians have already left their homes. DW is monitoring behind developments Thursday, June 23 (Moscow time).

Russia paid coupons in rubles on two issues of Eurobonds maturing in 2027 and 2047 for a total of 12.51 billion rubles. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation on Thursday. The ministry confirmed that payments in rubles can be converted into foreign currency and withdrawn abroad. Foreign owners and nominal holders of Eurobonds who agree to the new payment scheme will have to waive their claims in writing in the future, the Russian agency noted. Russia’s service of its public debt is complicated due to Western sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. On June 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on payments of public debt in rubles.
