Roskomnadzor demanded to withdraw the license “New newspaper”. The lawsuit to invalidate the certificate of registration of the publication was submitted to the Basmanny District Court of Moscow, the editors said on Thursday, July 28. The lawsuit is related to the fact that Novaya Gazeta did not provide the editorial charter within the time limits established by the media law, RBC clarifies.

At the same time, according to the data in the card index on the website of Roskomnadzor, the validity of the registration certificate of Novaya Gazeta was suspended by decision of the founders.

Novaya Gazeta suspended publication after the start of the war in Ukraine

In March 2022, Novaya Gazeta announced that it was suspending publication release on the website, in social networks and in paper form until the end Russian invasion of Ukraine. The editors explained this decision by the fact that they received a second warning from Roskomnadzor, because of which “the newspaper cannot continue to work.” NG journalists who left Russia launched a foreign project “New newspaper. Europe”after a short time he was blocked in the Russian Federation at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In mid-June editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov announced plans to release the magazine “NO”. In mid-July, it was launched by the remaining NG journalists in Russia, but exactly a week later, its website also blocked in Russia at the request of the Attorney General.
