Rocket Lab launches US spy satellite

On Thursday, August 4, Rocket Lab successfully launched an Electron launch vehicle carrying the American NROL-199 reconnaissance satellite on board.

According to Ukrinform, the company announced this on Twitter.

“Electron has successfully deployed a US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) payload into orbit. Welcome to your new home in space, NROL199!” said Rocket Lab.

According to space.comthe launch of the Electron launch vehicle with the American NROL-199 reconnaissance satellite on board was carried out at 08.00 Kyiv time from the cosmodrome in New Zealand.

The satellite turned into its planned orbit an hour after launch.

As Ukrinform reported, on August 2, Rocket Lab canceled the launch of the Electron launch vehicle with the American reconnaissance satellite NROL-199 on board due to adverse weather conditions (strong gusts of wind).

“The satellite will support NRO in relaying critical information to government agencies and decision makers who monitor international affairs,” Rocket Lab wrote.
