German defense concern Rheinmetall prepare for shipment the first repaired infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) Marder already three weeks later, said the head of the concern Armin Papperger in an interview with the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, published on Tuesday, May 10. “In the medium term, we could provide a total of 100 vehicles,” he stressed.

According to Papperger, his concern is waiting for the final decision of the German government. At the same time, the head of Rheinmetall noted that they want to get the Marder BMP not only Ukrainebut also many other countries.

Rheinmetall has a stock of used Marder vehicles that can be refurbished for combat. “Four weeks ago, we already started repairs, although there are no specific orders yet. So we act at our own peril and risk,” Papperger said.

The German government has not yet made a decision

The German Bundestag approved the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine at the end of April. At the same time, the German government has not yet taken a clear position on the issue of sending certain types of weapons to Ukraine, such as tanks. Leopard and BMP Marder.

Currently, Germany and the Czech Republic are working on the implementation of the so-called circular deliveries: the Czech Republic will have to supply Ukraine with Russian-made heavy weapons, and in return will receive modern Western-style weapons from Germany.
