Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher in the first trailer for their upcoming romantic comedy “Your House or Mine”

Debbie and Peter are best friends, but they are different. She likes the routine she leads with her son in Los Angeles, and he shines with success in New York. A few months ago it was announced that two of the most profitable celebrities in the United States, Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, would participate together for the first time in the romantic comedy your house or mine. Now after months without new details, the Netflix production has released the first trailer for this film that will hit the service’s catalog on February 10, just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

In the upcoming project the actors play Debbie and Peter, who have been the best of friends for 20 years and one day discover that what they thought they wanted might not be what they really needed. “Do you remember the first night we met?” Debbie (Witherspoon) is heard saying at the beginning of the clip, as the two reminisce over the phone. “It never stops being weird,” replies Peter (Kutcher), and they laugh at the memory. The film written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna (screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada), who makes her directorial debut in this feature film.

The clip shows that despite the fact that there is a special chemistry between the two characters, neither of them has taken the step to really express their feelings towards the other. Although these adults have long been friends, they are complete opposites: she is a single mother living in Los Angeles who likes to lead a life full of routine while raising her son Jack (Wesley Kimmel); For his part, he is a marketing-savvy executive who has fun and lives in a more fast-paced way in New York.

The new teaser shows the two characters as they decide to accept the challenge of swapping their lives (and houses) for a week. There they will discover that what they think they want may not be what they really need. After Debbie begins a relationship with a stranger (Jesse Williams) during her stay in New York, the friends realize that her friends could always have been the beginning of a romantic relationship.

The romantic comedy goes beyond the usual concepts around love, expanding its scope to parental bonds and friendships. Witherspoon sees this film as something special for women raising their children alone. “my house or yours it is a kind of love letter to single mothers around the world. Even if your life didn’t work out perfectly the way you envisioned it, there is hope, there is joy, and love can still be found,” she wrote in a statement.

The feature film is written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna (screenwriter for the devil fashion dress) who makes her directorial debut with this film. The project also stars Zoë Chao, who plays Peter’s neighbor who becomes the blonde single mom’s confidant, and Tig Notaro as Debbie’s best friend, who ultimately advises Peter on what to do once he’s gone. she realizes that she could love her friend. The cast is completed by Jesse Williams, Wesley Kimmel, Griffin Matthews, Rachel Bloom, Shiri Appleby, Vella Lovell, and Steve Zahn.


In addition to starring in the film, Witherspoon is also serving as a part of the production through his own company, Hello Sunshine. Her fellow producers on the project include writer-director McKenna, as well as Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and Lauren Neustadter. The film will premiere on February 10.
