On Wednesday morning, the President (for now) of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky decided with a candidate for the post of Attorney General. As expected, it was one of the deputies of the Servant of the People faction. Candidate is called Andrey Kostin, He is a native from Odessa, a lawyer by training, and even made a good career as a lawyer in Ukraine before he was imperiously called to her by politics. The general public is known only for the fact that before this appointment he was the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy and seemed to be responsible for the next judicial reform, which, as expected, stalled, and it was never possible to bring it to the implementation stage.
Among Kostin’s distinctions are the highest award of the National Bar Association of Ukraine – the honorary badge “Outstanding Lawyer of Ukraine” (2013) and the title “Honored Lawyer of Ukraine”, which is personally awarded by the President of the country. In addition, Kostin is also known for the fact that Zelensky included him in the delegation for negotiations with Russia in April this year, but Kostin did not show himself in this post.
However, it doesn’t matter. Much more important is the fact that he has long-standing and strong friendly ties with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine (analogous to our presidential administration – author’s note) Andriy Yermak. Apparently, since the time when Yermak himself also worked as a lawyer, since they received their diplomas in one year, although at different universities.
It would be wrong to say that Kostin became a candidate only because of his party affiliation. Kostin’s predecessor as Prosecutor General, Irina Venediktova, was also a representative of the Servant of the People, which did not prevent her, if we are to believe the accusations against her, from colliding with Petro Poroshenko and hindering the investigation of the criminal case against the ex-president of Ukraine in every possible way.
And taking into account the fact that it is the new head of the prosecutor’s office who will have to revive the case against Poroshenko, conduct investigations against more than 650 high-ranking “traitors” from law enforcement agencies and special services, including, apparently, investigating the case against Gennady Korban and the current mayor of Dnepropetrovsk, Boris Filatov, it is personal loyalty that is put at the forefront. Moreover, this is not about loyalty to Zelensky, but rather to the same Yermak, who is now forming political benches at his own discretion.
– Zelensky and Yermak now put people in key positions who they completely consider their own. Banking becomes the sole decision-making center. Officials with dual loyalty – who have “lateral” ties to Western structures, oligarchs other than Kolomoisky, as well as politicians other than the Servant of the People – are being expelled from power, a high-ranking source from Zelensky’s parliamentary faction, who Judging by such assessments, the current situation is not encouraging at all. Perhaps for the reason that he himself remained in the parliamentary ranks.
Based on this criterion, if everything at the top of the Ukrainian government was determined by Zelensky himself, the post of Prosecutor General could even be taken by Zelensky’s long-time ally in Kvartal 95, the well-known “bald bityug” Yevgeny Koshevoy, who was afraid to go to war, because he was there “in the first the same day a sniper will shoot.” Fortunately, when Yuriy Lutsenko was appointed to this post at one time, the deputies made it optional for the candidate to have a specialized legal education. But, apparently, Yermak does not have such warm feelings for Koshevoy as he does for Kostin.
Not qualifications, not professionalism, but exclusively personal devotion – this is the main criterion to take a high post in Ukraine now. And the readiness to carry out all, without exception, the commands coming from the residence of the President of Ukraine with Bankova.
PS The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved Kostin as Prosecutor General of Ukraine, giving 299 votes for his candidacy. The new season of “Mega Witch Hunt” is declared open.
