Politician Leonid Gozman announced the initiation of a criminal case against his wife | News from Germany about Russia | DW

Russian political and public figure Leonid Gozman said that a criminal case was initiated against his wife for failure to file a notification of second citizenship. He posted this on Friday, July 29, on his Facebook account.

“We have just been told that a criminal case has also been initiated against my wife for the same terrible crime – for late informing about a second citizenship!” – wrote Gozman, who had previously become a suspect in a similar criminal proceeding.

Politician faces up to 400 hours of community service or fine

In 2018, the politician accepted Israeli citizenship, however, according to his lawyer Mikhail Biryukov, he notified the migration service about this a year later – in 2019. In April 2022, this gave rise to a criminal case against him.

On July 25, a record appeared in the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with information that Gozman was put on the federal wanted list. On the same day it detained in the Moscow metro and then released. Under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on non-notification of a second citizenship, a politician faces up to 400 hours of compulsory work or a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles or in the amount of wages in a year.

In the Russian Federation, Gozman is included in the register of “foreign agents”

In May, the Russian authorities recognized Leonid Gozman “foreign agent”. The politician appealed this decision, but at the end of June, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow refused to satisfy Gozman’s claims.

In 2014, the politician in an interview with DW noted that special Eurasian way for Russia – the road to a dead end.
