Senior Security Fellow at the Cato Institute Ted Carpenter considered Washington’s mistake visit of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to the island of Taiwan. The political scientist recommended that the American authorities take Beijing’s warnings more seriously. The expert compared them with Moscow’s demands for security guarantees from the West.
“China is just as likely to use military force to protect vital national security interests as Russia is to repel US interference in Ukraine’s affairs,” the expert said.
According to the interlocutor of the publication, Beijing opposes armed clashes between the United States and China. However, for the Chinese authorities, the military special operation of the Russian Federation to enforce peace in Ukraine is an example of a reaction to the violation of the country’s interests. As Carpenter said, launching such a mission is an extreme measure that Washington can provoke.
Earlier, the former head of the Ministry of Defense of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Igor Strelkov, said that Beijing was actively preparing for a possible war with the USA.
