Musk says he wants to restore Trump’s permanently banned Twitter account

American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk announced his intention to restore Donald Trump’s Twitter account, blocked “forever” for inciting violence, if his agreement to acquire Twitter is successfully implemented.

Musk said this on Tuesday, at the Financial Times conference in Washington, Ukrinform reports citing CNN.

“I really think that the decision to deny access to Donald Trump was wrong, and I think it was a mistake,” the businessman said.

At the same time, he stressed that he “would cancel this permanent ban,” since the company should not use such tools at all.

Musk explained that restrictions on one social network do not stop, but only strengthen Trump’s voice among supporters of the right-wing movement.

Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey later commented on Musk’s remarks, saying he agreed with the position that permanent bans on Twitter users are inappropriate.

“There are exceptions … but in general, permanent bans are our fault and they don’t work,” he said.

As Ukrinform reported, in January last year, the social network Twitter stated, which permanently suspended Donald Trump’s account “due to the risks of further incitement to violence.” Then, after Trump’s numerous calls for non-recognition of the election results, as well as against the backdrop of the tragic events of the storming of the Capitol by his supporters, the company recognized the actions of the then president as violating the rules of the social platform.
